BRACEBRIDGE

Triple Race Weekend( Sprint, GIT, Olympic)

I like racing...

Originally the plan was to do the sprint on Saturday, then the Olympic Sunday. When we were organizing cars however, it was decided that we would stay for both races on Saturday, so I thought why not do all three if I'm staying. Thankfully all the races turned out pretty well for me despite being just a little bit tired by the end of the olympic.

Sprint: 750m/20k/5k

Waiting for the swim with my brothers

Swim:

The water could not have been a nicer temperature for the swim for
me. A bit chilly when I first got in but nice while swimming. The first half of the swim went well, and was pretty uneventful. I passed a few people in the first couple hundred meters then found the rest of the swim pretty empty.

Bike:

Unfortunately I forgot my bike shoes coming to the race, leading to an exciting bike ride inside my running shoes! After getting used to the slipperiness of the shoes, the bike ended up going pretty well aside from having to get off my bike on one hill due to my feet slipping off the pedals. Under the circumstances though, I was very happy with my overall time on the bike.

Run:

Felt great from the start of the run and tried to go at a strong pace throughout the run without slowing down. I ended up setting a new best run time for the distance by a few seconds which was rewarding to know that my training is starting to pay off.

GIT 400m/10k/2.5k:

Swim:

The swim, and the rest of the race, was interesting for me since I was the last competitor to start. I found it to be a bit of an obstacle course going through swimmers, (and bikers and runners).

Bike:

My dad was not competing in this race which meant I could borrow his bike shoes for the race. As soon as I got on my bike I pushed as hard as I could trying to sneak a top position in the race without any early competitors knowing thanks to the time trial start.

Run:

I was definitely feeling my legs by the time the run came around, especially after a hard run in the sprint a few hours earlier. I still managed to finish strong and come third overall.
Done the first two triathlons

Olympic 1500m/40k/10k

Swim:

I tried not to think about my two races the day before and focus on relaxing and using this as more of a training race. I focused on my form for the swim, and ended up being quite comfortable and finding a good pace for myself along the way.

Bike:

My legs were in no mood for a hard ride after the day before so, like the swim, I enjoyed the ride without tiring myself out too much for the run.

Run:

By this point I was only looking forwards to a chocolate milk at the finish line and some pizza to go with it. After stopping for a couple minutes to stretch after a few hundred meters, I went off on my run trying to find a comfortable pace that wouldn't take me too long to finish. Surprisingly, I almost set another personal best for my run time for an Olympic distance triathlon, which once again was reassurance that my focus on running this summer has greatly improved my strength.

Thanks to MultiSport Canada for putting on another great event (or three) and all the volunteers that helped to make it happen. Also thank you to my parents who once again drove me too and from the races happily.
